Melissa Jørgenrud Helton, Literary Arts Director at the Hindman Settlement School and a James Baker Hall Book Award Finalist in 2024 will be joining us to read from her recently published book, A Middle-Aged Woman Rages. Her poetry, essays, and photography have been published in Still: The Journal, Shenandoah, Cutleaf, and more. Her chapbooks include Inertia: A Study and Hewn. Her editing work includes Troublesome Rising: A Thousand-Year Flood in Eastern Kentucky, the anthology that documents the devastating flood that hit campus in July 2022. Melissa’s work has been supported through the Kentucky Foundation for Women, and has been awarded the George Scarbrough Poetry Prize, the Emma Bell Miles Nonfiction Prize, and has been nominated for Best of the Net. She has been honored with the Mildred Haun Award of Excellence and designation as a Kentucky Colonel, and she is a dual citizen in the United Kingdom.
