Larry Pemble interviews Wesley Houp at the Kentucky Book Fair: Louisville Edition

The James Baker Hall Kentucky Writers On The Road speaker series (KYOTR) is a program integrated with the Book Award, which provides authors with promotional exposure across the Commonwealth and opportunities for us to collaborate with a variety of partners to identify new writers and bring them into the Kentucky writers community. The KYOTR speaking series executes over the course of a year. During these months we travel the Commonwealth where literary creatives accumulate in substantial numbers.

Pairing the two programs, the James Baker Hall Book Award and Kentucky Writers on the Road speaker series establishes a continuous and growing presence of the Foundation in the literary community across the Commonwealth.  Our Grant programs provide local sponsors and event venues for our KYOTR events.

In each location we have a local partner to host the KYOTR event and facilitate branding of the Foundation’s programs. A strong local bookstore or public library are likely site candidates. Our KYOTR protocol pairs our Book Award Winner with a well-known local author or a younger writer, student or mentee. We suggest a day of workshops linked to the reading so that the event can be motivational for mentors and mentees, providing the occasion to gather and be with other writers.
