The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning
The Young Writers Project is gearing up for 2025. The program accepts applications from young women and nonbinary writers in grades 9-12. The deadline for 2025 is January 17. The project consists of a series of intensive workshops focused on creative self-expression through writing. Established writers mentor participants in technique, the business of writing and effective literary reading. The program concludes with a public reading and participation in Writing Mentor Day with local public schools. Again . . . don’t miss the opportunity to apply . . . the date for applications closing is January 17, 2025!
Another program that focuses on young writers is the Lexington Youth Poet Laureate Program. While the application process has closed for 2025, The Carnegie Center is excited to kick off year two of the program. “In our first year we had around 24 applicants apply,” states director Hall. “The purpose of the program is to have writing be their inspirational point.” The program is part of Urban Word from New York City and has a component of community service attached. The commencement for the Lexington Youth Poet Laureate will be on January 31, 2025.
These two programs are just a few of the vast number of class opportunities available at The Carnegie Center.
