Meet the James Baker Hall Foundation Board of Directors

Lawrence Pemble, Managing Director 

Larry, Jim’s eldest son, is a philanthropist, art collector and founder of Chindex International, Inc. (formerly NASDAQ:CHDX), a company he and two partners formed in 1983 to pursue healthcare business opportunities in China. Recognized as the pioneer of American Healthcare in China, the trio built United Family Healthcare where he served as CFO and COO until his retirement in 2015. Larry also served as a Treasurer and Director at Providence Montessori School from 2007-2019. Larry, along with his other family members, feel a commitment to sharing Jim’s work and continue the legacy of his father’s to mentor young Kentucky writers. Larry holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan in Business and also holds a BA in Chinese Studies and Linguistics from the University of Albany, SUNY. 

 

Jeanine Triplett, Executive Vice President of Development

Jeanine brings decades of development team leadership including capital campaigns at three institutions raising over $20 million. Providing leadership at both the academic and nonprofit level, Jeanine brings experience in community development and organizing that will be of value as the foundation grows. She is the former National President and current Trustee of the Delta Zeta Sorority and president of the University Club of Louisville. Jeanine is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in Communications and holds a graduate degree from U of L in Community Development. 

Michael Hall, Artistic Director 

Jim’s youngest son, Michael, is a multi-media artist, commercial photographer and collector. He brings 30 plus years in marketing, advertising and creativity to the team. Michael has helped many companies from Fortune 10 to startups to nonprofits, define their voice, establish their positioning and build sustainable creative visions. Michael’s expertise in marketing and advertising has been instrumental in the creative development of social media for the foundation. Michael is a graduate of Vassar College and also attended the California College of the Arts.

Stephen M. Vest 

Steve is the editor and publisher of Kentucky Monthly, a Governor Award in the Arts (Media) honoree. Founded in 1998, Kentucky Monthly has more than 100,000 readers. 

He is the author of the upcoming biography, The Life and Times of Dog’s Best Friend: Unexpected Inheritance, a memoir about being raised by older parents and a hard-to-please grandmother; two collections of columns and the publisher of the 2012 anthology, Kentucky’s Twelve Days of Christmas

A frequent speaker, Vest teaches communications at Campbellsville University, feature writing at Eastern Kentucky University and English at Midway University. Steve is a graduate of the University of Louisville and holds a Masters of FIne Arts from Murray State University. Steve and his wife, Kay, have four grown children and reside in Frankfort.
